The three big AI subscriptions have settled into a similar ladder: a roughly $20 starter plan, then $100 and $200 tiers for heavy users. OpenAI has also added a $500 option. Here is what each costs per month in the US as of early October 2026, and which is worth paying for.
The Short Answer
- Light to moderate use: ChatGPT Plus ($20), Claude Pro ($20) and Google AI Pro ($19.99) cost almost the same, so choose by features and the apps you already use.
- Heavy daily use: The $100 tier is the sweet spot at all three companies.
- Cheapest premium tier with extras: Google AI Ultra at $99.99 bundles 20 TB of storage and YouTube Premium.
- Most expensive: ChatGPT Pro 500, at $500 per month.

*Reports differ on Google AI Plus, with prices of $7.99 and $4.99 cited. Check Google’s plans page.
Taxes may be added depending on your state. ChatGPT Pro tiers are billed monthly only, with no annual discount.
The $20 Tier: Plus vs Pro vs AI Pro
All three cost about the same and can write, summarize, analyze files and help with code.
| ChatGPT Plus | Claude Pro | Google AI Pro | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly price | $20 | $20 (or $17 billed yearly) | $19.99 |
| Annual cost | $240 | $204 on annual billing | $239.88 |
| Usage | Standard allowance | About 5x the free plan | Compute-based limits that refresh every few hours |
| Standout extras | GPT-6 reasoning models, projects, scheduled tasks, custom GPTs, Codex access | Claude Code on web and terminal, projects, Google Workspace integration | 5 TB cloud storage, deep research, integration across Google apps |
Who should pick which?
- ChatGPT Plus: best for an all-purpose assistant with the widest set of add-ons and agents.
- Claude Pro: a favorite for long documents, writing and coding.
- Google AI Pro: the value choice if you already use Gmail, Drive and Docs, since the 5 TB storage can replace a separate Google One bill.
The $100 Tier
This is where heavy users land.
| ChatGPT Pro 100 | Claude Max 5x | Google AI Ultra | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $100 | $100 | $99.99 |
| Usage | About 5x Plus | 5x Pro | 5x Google AI Pro |
| Extras | Larger Codex and agent allowance | Higher output limits, memory, early features | 20 TB storage, YouTube Premium, priority access to Google Antigravity, $100/month in Google Cloud credits (per Google I/O 2026 coverage) |
Google’s move at I/O in May 2026 was the notable one. It launched the $99.99 Ultra tier and cut its previous $249.99 plan to $199.99, which means Google now matches the other two at each price point while adding more bundled perks.
The $200 Tier
| ChatGPT Pro 200 | Claude Max 20x | Google AI Ultra (top) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $200 | $200 | $199.99 |
| Usage | Larger than Pro 100 | 20x Pro | 20x AI Pro |
| Extras | Bigger allowance | Highest Claude limits | 30 TB storage, Project Genie world model, highest limits on Antigravity and NotebookLM |
A caution for ChatGPT: at DevDay, OpenAI cut the token allowance of the $200 plan roughly in half for new subscribers. Existing subscribers keep the earlier allowance until October 29. Check current limits before you commit.
The $500 Option
OpenAI’s Pro 500 is the highest consumer tier among the three. It offers the largest allowance (reported at 25 times Plus) and Ultrafast access, which runs GPT-6 Astra at up to 300 tokens per second. It targets developers and researchers who run agents all day. Neither Anthropic nor Google has a plan at this price.
What a Year Costs
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Plus | $20 | $240 |
| Claude Pro (annual billing) | $17 | $204 |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 | $239.88 |
| $100 tiers | about $100 | about $1,200 |
| $200 tiers | about $200 | about $2,400 |
| ChatGPT Pro 500 | $500 | $6,000 |
Subscribing to all three $20 plans would cost roughly $60 per month, or about $720 a year. Some people do this and cancel the ones they use least.
Business Seats
For small teams, ChatGPT Business and Claude Team have matching prices: $25 per seat monthly ($20 annual) for standard seats and $125 monthly ($100 annual) for premium seats. Seat caps and extra usage rules vary, so check them if you have a larger team.
Which Plan Is Worth It?
| If you... | Best pick |
|---|---|
| Want one all-around assistant | ChatGPT Plus |
| Write long documents or code a lot | Claude Pro |
| Live in Gmail, Drive and Docs | Google AI Pro |
| Hit usage limits on a $20 plan | The $100 tier from any company |
| Want storage, YouTube Premium and AI in one bill | Google AI Ultra ($99.99) |
| Run agents and Codex all day | ChatGPT Pro 100, Max 5x or Pro 500 |
| Are a student or casual user | Free plans first, then one $20 plan |
Tips to Save Money
- Start with the free plans. All three have them, and many people don’t need more.
- Pay annually where available. Claude Pro drops to $17 per month with annual billing.
- Subscribe for one month at a time during heavy projects, then downgrade.
- Check the bundled value. Google’s storage and YouTube Premium can replace separate subscriptions.
- Watch for plan changes. Prices and limits shifted several times this year, so reread the plan page before you pay.
At $20, the three plans are nearly interchangeable on price, so pick the one that fits your daily tools. At $100, Google AI Ultra offers the most bundled extras, while ChatGPT and Claude offer the strongest assistants for coding and agent work. Only go to $200 or $500 if you regularly run into limits. For most Americans, one $20 plan is plenty.
